A Matter of the Homeland (Memleket Meselesi) (translated)
Memleket Meselesi is a 2010 Turkish drama-comedy film directed and written by İsa Yıldız, with Ahmet Uğurlu in the leading role. The film enjoyed an unusually long theatrical run, staying on screens for 31 weeks.
The story follows Adil Hoca, a primary school teacher who is transferred back to his hometown shortly before his retirement. His stubborn, upright character earned him repeated disciplinary exiles over the years and even wore out his wife Nazife, yet he remains a beloved and respected figure in the town. One day a young local police officer hurls insults at him and slaps him, deeply wounding his pride. When his efforts through the district police and the prosecutor's office fail to bring the officer to account, he refuses to let the matter drop.
Turning an incident everyone urges him to forget into a fight for dignity, Adil Hoca rallies the townspeople behind him, makes his voice heard across the country and transforms his grievance into a genuine national issue. The supporting cast includes Bora Akkaş, Ufuk Bayraktar, Füsun Demirel, Tuna Orhan and Ahmet Kural.
