Cihangir Gaffari — Biography

Cihangir Gaffari (born 9 September 1940 in Baku), also credited as John Foster, John Ghaffari and Johnny Ghaffari, is an Iranian actor and film producer of South Azerbaijani descent. SinemaTürk gives his birth as 1942 in Iran, but Wikidata and the English, Turkish, Russian, Azerbaijani and Romanian Wikipedia articles agree on 9 September 1940 in Baku.

He began in Iranian cinema in the mid-1960s with films such as Mootalaie shahre ma and Qahremane Qahremanan (both 1965). Between 1968 and 1972 he worked prolifically in Turkish Yeşilçam productions, playing Cem Sultan in Malkoçoğlu Cem Sultan, Knight Leopold in Selahattin Eyyubi, Tuğrul in Melikşah and the title role in Zagor.

From the 1970s onward he appeared mainly in Spanish and American productions: Les Démons (1973), The Witches Mountain (1973), the title role in Dick Turpin (1974), Hundra (1983), Yellow Hair and the Fortress of Gold (1984), Fear City (1984) and Bloodsport (1988).
