Deniz Uğur — Biography

Deniz Uğur was born on October 17, 1973 in Ankara, the only child of opera singer Mete Uğur and ballerina Suna Uğur. Through her father she descends from a grandfather who was a classmate of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and through her mother from a Swiss line related to actor David Bennent. She trained first in ballet and then in theatre at Istanbul University State Conservatory, stepping onto the professional stage before graduating in 1995 with Görünmeyen Dostlar at Kenter Theatre, followed the next year by the French comedy Çetin Ceviz.

She appeared in the 1993 series Yaz Evi, and in 1997 won the Promising New Actress award at the 9th Ankara Film Festival for Bir Erkeğin Anatomisi. She became widely known playing Sanem in Adını Feriha Koydum, and went on to roles in Kırgın Çiçekler, İnsanlık Suçu and Zalim İstanbul, the last earning her the Turkish Radio and Television Journalists Association's award for best television actress. Beyond acting she has worked as a columnist, songwriter and screenwriter. A mother of three, she has continued appearing in Börü 2039, Bir Peri Masalı, Cenazemize Hoşgeldiniz, Demir Kadın: Neslican and Karantina.
