İzzet Günay — Biography

İzzet Günay was born on 21 August 1934 in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul. After finishing Haydarpaşa and Deniz Lisesi, he briefly worked for the Istanbul municipality; following his military service he answered a newspaper advertisement for the Dormen Theatre and began his professional acting career with a small role.

Moving from stage to screen, Günay appeared in more than 100 films over a career spanning six decades, becoming one of the most prolific and recognizable names of Turkish Yeşilçam cinema. He is remembered for roles in films such as Fatoş'un Bebekleri, Acemi Çapkın, Ekmekçi Kadın, Beyoğlu Esrarı, Kezban, Seninle Ölmek İstiyorum, Ali Cengiz Oyunu, Unutulmayanlar, and Bay E. Also known as an antique dealer and stamp collector outside acting, he received the Golden Orange Lifetime Achievement Award. In March 2026, an exhibition dedicated to his career brought together veteran Yeşilçam artists after decades apart.
