Nubar Terziyan — Biography

Nubar Terziyan, born Nubar Alyanak (16 March 1909, Istanbul – 14 January 1994, Istanbul), was a Turkish film and stage actor of Armenian descent. He was educated at the Bakırköy Bezazyan Armenian school and began performing on stage in 1940 with the Gençler Temaşa Heyeti troupe. He entered film in 1949 with Efsuncu Baba, adapted from a novel by Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar, and went on to appear in more than four hundred productions across four decades.

Although he never received formal acting training, he developed a distinctive, improvisation-based style and became known for warm supporting characters such as kindly fathers, affectionate grandfathers and good-hearted shopkeepers in Yeşilçam cinema. He never concealed his Armenian heritage, and he died in Istanbul at the age of 84.
