The Broken Disk (Kırık Plak)

Kırık Plak (The Broken Disk) is a 1959 black-and-white Turkish romantic drama directed and produced by Osman F. Seden from a screenplay by Bülent Oran. The film stars Zeki Müren and Belgin Doruk, supported by Ayfer Feray, Hayri Esen, Behzat Balkaya and Muammer Gözalan, and it also marks the screen debut of İzzet Günay.

The story follows the singer Zeki, whose patroness Nermin — the woman who made him famous and exploited him — destroys his vocal cords out of jealousy. When Nermin is murdered by her own husband, the crime is pinned on Zeki, who flees and is presumed dead after an accident, while actually living in misery in a remote corner of Anatolia. An unexpected operation restores his voice, and by cooperating with the police he brings the real killer, Asım, to justice and is reunited with his beloved Leyla.
