Bitter Life (Acı Hayat) (translated)

Acı Hayat (Bitter Life) is a 1973 Turkish romantic drama directed by Orhan Aksoy from a screenplay by Fuat Özlüer. Produced by Erler Film, it stars Cüneyt Arkın and Filiz Akın.

Kerem and Ebru meet by chance at a party and quickly fall in love, deciding to marry. When their families are introduced, however, it emerges that the two households have been locked in a blood feud for nearly a century. Defying the hostility, the couple keeps meeting in secret, and when Ebru's father tries to force her to marry his employee Bahri, the lovers elope and hide in a deserted hotel on Uludağ. Bahri tracks them down, shoots Kerem and assaults Ebru, who suffers a breakdown and is committed to a mental hospital. Learning that Kerem survived, she escapes, and the two are reunited; Kerem then takes his revenge on Bahri and his men. On the run from the police, the doomed lovers return to their mountain refuge and, refusing to be parted, choose to freeze to death together in the snow.
