Necdet Tosun — Biography
Necdet Tosun was born on 3 August 1926 in the town of Burhaniye, in Balıkesir province. While working as a restaurant hand, a roasted-chickpea seller and a tailor's assistant, he caught the eye of a film crew shooting on location in Burhaniye and was invited to Istanbul, where he began his acting career.
Appearing in close to 400 films, Tosun became a beloved fixture of Yeşilçam for his warm, plump, good-natured "cook" character type. He appeared in productions such as Fadime, Beyoğlu Esrarı and Kanlı Para; his sons Erdal and Gürdal Tosun would later become well-known comedians in Turkish film and television.
Necdet Tosun died in Istanbul on 10 May 1975.
