Adiós gringo
Giorgio Stegani directed Adiós gringo, a Spaghetti Western shot in colour in 1965. Its source is Harry Whittington's novel Adios, and it was made in Italian as a joint Italian, Spanish and French production. It counts among the early Italian westerns and stays closer to American models than to the distinctive style the genre would later develop. It was a major success in Italy, ranking as the fourth highest-grossing Italian film of the year.
Giuliano Gemma stars as Brent Landers, a young cowboy who, after a cattle deal goes wrong, is forced to shoot a farmer in self-defence. As he tries to clear himself of the accusation and prove his innocence, he is pulled into adventurous episodes and a love affair. Ida Galli, Roberto Camardiel, Jesús Puente, Nello Pazzafini, Germano Longo, Pierre Cressoy, Frank Braña, Massimo Righi, Jean Martin, Gilberto Galimberti, Mimo Billi, Osiride Pevarello and Alba Maiolini appear alongside him.
Stegani wrote the screenplay, and Harry Pears is credited as producer. Benedetto Ghiglia composed the score, Fred Bongusto sang the original song, and Jürgen Herbst sang the title song of the German version.
