Four Steps in the Clouds (Bulutlar Arasında Dört Adım)

Four Steps in the Clouds is a 1942 Italian comedy-drama directed and co-written by Alessandro Blasetti, produced by Cines and starring Gino Cervi and Adriana Benetti, with Aldo De Benedetti and Cesare Zavattini also among the screenwriters. The story follows a married man who agrees to pose for a few days as the husband of a young pregnant woman abandoned by her boyfriend. The film was shot at the Cinecittà Studios in Rome, with sets designed by Virgilio Marchi.

Aesthetically close to Italian neorealism, it is often regarded alongside titles like Ossessione as a forerunner of the movement, favouring real locations and ordinary lives over the escapist cinema of the fascist era. In 2008 it became the oldest entry on the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage's list of 100 Italian films to be saved. The film was remade several times, including the French-Italian version of 1956 and A Walk in the Clouds in 1995.
