Time of the Lake (Göl Zamanı)

Göl Zamanı is a 2013 Turkish drama film written and directed by Cafer Özgül and produced by Focus Film. It tells a love story set in 1930s Turkey.

The plot follows Ahmet and Refik, two close friends fresh out of medical school who set out to travel across Anatolia. Stopping in an Aegean town, they stay at the mansion of Haşim Bey, a former member of the Committee of Union and Progress, where they meet his daughter Elif. Refik and Elif fall in love by the lake, but Refik, driven by his ideals, leaves her behind and departs for Europe. Ahmet, who has also fallen for Elif, requests a posting and settles in the town, beginning a years-long period of waiting and reckoning between the three. The film was screened at the 2013 Montreal Film Festival and the 2014 Fajr Film Festival.
