Begüm Birgören — Biography

Begüm Birgören was born on 20 September 1982 in Istanbul to a Circassian-descended economist mother and a teacher father. At thirteen she saw a newspaper ad and joined Müjdat Gezen Art Center courses. After Fenerbahçe High School she studied Visual Communication Design at Bahçeşehir and earned a Film and Drama master's at Kadir Has; interning at Med Yapım, director Oğuzhan Tercan discovered her.

She began acting in 1997 with Beşibiryerde, then played Olcay in Pilli Bebek and Nil in Mavi Kolye (2003). Her first lead came in 2005 as Melike in Seher Vakti, also young Eleni in Sen Ne Dilersen that year. She became known as Ayşe in Kırık Kanatlar (2006), then played Elvan in Karayılan (2007), Aslı in Mert ile Gert (2008), and Ömür in Ömre Bedel (2009).

She appeared in Ağır Roman Yeni Dünya (2012), played Merve in Kaçak (2013), won a Lions Theatre Award for "Sonbaharı Beklerken," and played İnci in Umuda Kelepçe Vurulmaz (2016).

She appeared in Uzak Şehrin Masalı (2021), then Osman Sekiz, Tozluyaka and Son Nefesime Kadar (2022). Drawn to the stage lately, she toured Plastik Aşklar with Oya Başar, including London, and in 2026 joined Mehmed Fetihler Sultanı as Gülşah Hatun. She married Mehmet Cemil on 18 October 2020; the marriage ended in 2022.
