The Black Snake (Karayılan) (translated)

Karayılan is a Turkish historical drama series produced by Sis Yapım, which premiered on 19 November 2007 and concluded with its 18th episode on 22 April 2008. The series portrays the liberation struggle of Gaziantep from French occupation and the life of Molla Mehmet Karayılan, a legendary figure of that resistance. Noted as the second-highest-budget Turkish series of its time, it was filmed in Istanbul, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, with squares, bazaars and old Gaziantep houses specially constructed for the production.

At the center of the story is Memed, raised as a warrior through his father's harsh training, who earns the name "Karayılan" (Black Snake) after killing a wolf and defeating a black snake; faced with the occupation, he organizes a National Resistance movement around him. The leading roles are shared by Bülent İnal, Engin Akyürek and Begüm Birgören, alongside performers such as İlker Aksum, Nergis Öztürk, Binnur Kaya and Şahin Irmak.
