Marjan

Born Shahla Safi Zamir in 1948 in Iran, Marjan began her artistic career in the late 1960s within Iranian popular cinema. She appeared in films such as A World Full of Hope, Sekke-ye shans, Clowns and Gholam zhandarm during her early years on screen. Throughout the 1970s she acted in productions including A Man and a City, Kakol Zari, A Man for Rent, Golden Egg Chicken, Here Comes Mr. Mehdi, Salam bar Eshgh, Outcast, The Chivalrous, Hemmat and Madar Joonam Aashegh Shode. After establishing herself in film, she became known as a singer of Persian pop music. The Islamic Revolution of 1979 brought her professional activities to a halt, leaving her unable to continue performing for around twenty-seven years. She later lived in exile and died on 6 June 2020 in Los Angeles.
