Non chiamarmi Omar is a 1992 Italian speculative comedy directed by the cartoonist Sergio Staino. The film follows an ordinary Italian man, full of prejudices toward immigrants, who wakes up one morning to find himself transformed: he is now perceived by everyone around him as an Arab foreigner, addressed by the name Omar. Suddenly treated as an outsider in his own country, he is forced to experience firsthand the suspicion, exclusion and everyday discrimination he had never known before. As he struggles to recover his old identity, the people and situations he encounters compel him to confront his own former attitudes. Featuring a large ensemble cast that includes Stefania Sandrelli and Luigi Diberti, the film uses humor and a fantastical premise to address racism, prejudice and social marginalization in contemporary Italy.
