Stefania Sandrelli — Biography
Stefania Sandrelli was born on June 5, 1946, in Viareggio, Italy, and has built a career spanning more than sixty years as one of Italian cinema's most recognizable actresses. She was only fifteen when she rose to fame opposite Marcello Mastroianni in Pietro Germi's Divorce Italian Style, going on to become one of the leading figures of the "Italian-style comedy" (commedia all'italiana).
Her filmography ranges from Bernardo Bertolucci's The Conformist and Stealing Beauty to Ettore Scola's We All Loved Each Other So Much, Bigas Luna's Jamón, Jamón, and Gabriele Muccino's The Last Kiss, spanning both dramatic and comedic roles across collaborations with directors such as Pietro Germi, Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli, and Tinto Brass. She reached a new generation of audiences in 2024 with her role in Parthenope.
Alongside the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement awarded at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, she has received several David di Donatello awards. Her daughter, Amanda Sandrelli, born from her relationship with singer-songwriter Gino Paoli, has likewise pursued a career in acting.
