Jean-Louis Trintignant — Biography
Jean-Louis Trintignant (11 December 1930, Piolenc – 17 June 2022, Collias) was a French actor regarded as one of the finest dramatic performers of the post-war era. After his stage debut in 1951, he appeared in more than 140 film and television productions from the mid-1950s onward. He first drew attention in Roger Vadim's And God Created Woman (1956) and achieved international stardom as a racing driver in Claude Lelouch's A Man and a Woman (1966).
Over his career he collaborated with auteur directors such as Costa-Gavras, Éric Rohmer, Bernardo Bertolucci, Claude Chabrol, François Truffaut, Krzysztof Kieślowski and Michael Haneke. He received the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 1968 Berlin Film Festival for The Man Who Lies and the Best Actor prize at Cannes in 1969 for Z. His other celebrated films include My Night at Maud's (1969), The Conformist (1970) and Three Colours: Red (1994). His performance in Haneke's Amour (2012) earned him the 2013 César and the European Film Award for Best Actor. He also worked as a director, screenwriter and amateur racing driver, and was the father of actress Marie Trintignant.
