The Man Who Lies

The Man Who Lies (French: L'Homme qui ment, Slovak: Muž, ktorý luže) is a 1968 French-Czechoslovak drama film directed by writer-director Alain Robbe-Grillet, who also wrote the screenplay. Starring Jean-Louis Trintignant, with Catherine Robbe-Grillet also in the cast, the 95-minute French-language film was entered into the competition of the 18th Berlin International Film Festival, where Trintignant won the Silver Bear for Best Actor. A landmark of Robbe-Grillet's experimental cinema, the film has drawn considerable critical attention: Gilles Deleuze treated it as a central case in his lecture 'Truth and Time: The Forger,' and André Gardies devoted a full study of filmic narrative to it. Robbe-Grillet himself discussed the work in a series of interviews with François Jost, published as Entretiens sur l'Homme qui ment.
