La Terrazza (La terrazza) (translated)

La terrazza is a 1980 Italian-French drama that follows a circle of once-idealistic intellectuals who have grown disillusioned with their own lives and careers, told with a bittersweet, satirical tone. Ettore Scola directed the picture and co-wrote it with the pair known professionally as Age & Scarpelli. The ensemble brings together some of the biggest Italian screen stars of the period, including Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant. Scola himself and co-writer Agenore Incrocci appear briefly on screen in small cameo parts. At the 1980 Cannes Film Festival the screenplay earned the festival's top writing prize, while Carla Gravina was honored for best supporting actress. Italian film critics later gave the script their own award, the Nastro d'Argento.
