Marvelous Angelique

Marvelous Angelique (original title Merveilleuse Angélique) is a 1965 historical romantic adventure film directed by Bernard Borderie. Adapted from the best-selling novels by Anne and Serge Golon, it is the second entry in the five-film Angélique series and a sequel to Angélique, Marquise des Anges. The picture was produced as a co-production between France, Italy and West Germany, with a cast led by Michèle Mercier, Robert Hossein and Jean Rochefort, and a score by Michel Magne. Filming took place at the Billancourt Studios in Paris and at Cinecittà in Rome, while location work brought the production to Versailles. With sets designed by art director René Moulaert, the film continues the lavish costume-drama spirit of the series, set against the splendour of 17th-century France.
