Claire Maurier — Biography

Claire Maurier, born Odette-Michelle-Suzanne Agramon (27 March 1929, Céret – 3 May 2026, Strenquels), was a César Award-winning French film, stage and television actress. Trained at the Cours Simon, she began her acting career in 1947 and went on to appear in more than ninety films while also performing in theatre from the 1950s into the 2010s.

Among her best-known roles are Gilberte Doinel in François Truffaut's The 400 Blows, a part in La Cage aux Folles, and Madame Suzanne, the café owner in Amélie. She died in Strenquels at the age of 97.
