Valerio Mastandrea — Biography

Valerio Mastandrea was born on 14 February 1972 in Rome and became one of the leading figures of the renewed generation of Italian cinema that emerged from the 1990s onward. Working across theatre, film and television in both comedy and drama, he has appeared in some fifty films. In 1997 he won the acting prize at the Locarno festival for playing Walter in Davide Ferrario's Tutti giù per terra, and he went on to receive several David di Donatello awards over the course of his acting career. He later moved into directing, and his debut feature Ride was recognized at the Moscow festival. His screen credits include Perfect Strangers, the Diabolik trilogy and The First Beautiful Thing. Mastandrea is regarded as a versatile performer equally at home in comedy and in drama.
