Yellow Letters (Sarı Zarflar)

Yellow Letters (German: Gelbe Briefe, Turkish: Sarı Zarflar) is a 2026 political drama directed by İlker Çatak, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ayda Çatak and Enis Köstepen. A co-production between Germany, France and Turkey, the Turkish-language film was shot in Germany, with Berlin and Hamburg standing in for Ankara and Istanbul. It premiered in the main competition of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2026, where it won the Golden Bear, and opened in German cinemas on 5 March 2026. The film later received nine German Film Award nominations and won a silver prize for Marvin Miller's score.

The story follows Derya (Özgü Namal) and Aziz (Tansu Biçer), a respected couple from Ankara's theatre scene whose lives collapse overnight when state arbitrariness strips them of their jobs after the premiere of their new play. Forced to move to Istanbul with their 13-year-old daughter, they face mounting pressure that tests not only their finances but also their marriage and their bond with their daughter, pushing them to question their values and reconcile their ideals with the practical demands of survival.
