Servir y proteger

TV Series · 2017–2023 · 15 people

Plano a Plano made the police-themed daily soap Servir y proteger ("Serve and protect") for Spain's public broadcaster Televisión Española, which aired it on La 1 Monday to Friday from its premiere on Monday, April 24, 2017. The run lasted seven seasons and 1,372 episodes of 55 to 65 minutes each, ending with the finale on January 16, 2023.

The story follows the daily routine of a National Police (CNP) station in the south of present-day Madrid. Alicia, a talented rookie fresh out of the academy, joins the Distrito Sur station and learns the ropes from veteran detective Miralles and streetwise agent Batista, while trying to find the truth about her mother's death. In its last season the cast was led by Luisa Martín, Pablo Puyol, Thais Blume, Juan Díaz, Candela Serrat, Roberto Álvarez, Pepa Aniorte, Mamen Camacho and Juanjo Artero; Verónika Moral is also among its actors.

Over its run about 60 regular actors, 300 guest actors and 9,000 extras worked on the show, with 17,000 hours of filming and over 55,000 script pages. The first season ran to February 15, 2018, and TVE announced in September 2022 that the seventh would be the last.

Through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Seven seasons, 1,372 episodes: Servir y proteger is not a season-based show in the usual sense but a daily habit. Its strength is continuity. Alicia, fresh out of the academy, learning the job from veteran Miralles and street-smart Batista is a solid base for a long-running mentor relationship, and the question of her mother's death gives the story a thread of curiosity from day one. But to be honest, saggy stretches are unavoidable in a run this long. This is a show to dip in and out of, not one to binge from start to finish.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

A police station, detectives, cops who know the streets: on paper it promises action, but this is a daily soap. In 55-to-65-minute episodes the focus is on everyday life at the station rather than chases. If you want a fast-paced cop show, adjust your expectations; continuity, not tension, comes first here.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

A daily series about the routine of a police station, the kind of thing a family can put on together. Since it's about crime and police, expect some tense moments, but the main thread is a young woman learning her job. Suitable for teens and adults. For young children some topics may be a bit heavy. Episodes are long, so keep that in mind too.
