Hope (Umut) (translated)

Umut is a 2009 Turkish drama film written and directed by Murat Aslan, released in cinemas on 27 February 2009. The 105-minute production was produced by Bülent Helvacı and Mehmet Soyarslan, with music by Mazlum Çimen and Saki Çimen.

The film follows Yılmaz, who returns to Türkiye after spending many years in prison abroad. Arriving in his village in Şarköy, he finds his home in ruins and his son Umut — whom he has not seen since infancy — estranged from him. Just as father and son begin to grow close again, Yılmaz faces the danger of losing the boy entirely. The chain of events, which begins in Şarköy and continues in Istanbul, forces Yılmaz into the most critical decision of his life to save his son. The cast includes Selim Erdoğan, Bertan Ceylan, Fikret Hakan, Zeynep Tokuş, Zafer Algöz, Seda Bakan, Levent Üzümcü, and Mesut Akusta.
