Eşref Kolçak — Biography

Eşref Kolçak was a Turkish film and television actor of Turkish-Russian descent, born on 28 January 1927 in Erzurum. He moved to Istanbul in 1941 and trained at the Sultanahmet Institute of Fine Arts, beginning his stage career as a dancer with a revue troupe in 1944 before moving into cinema. He became a star with the 1953 film "Affet Beni Allahım," and through the 1950s and 1960s established himself as one of the most sought-after leading men of Turkish melodrama and adventure films.

Over a career spanning more than seventy years, Kolçak appeared in over two hundred films and television productions, including "Topal" (1973), "Cemil" (1975), "Silah Arkadaşları," "Yıkılmayan Adam" and "Şeref Sözü" (1977), "Ölüm Görevi" (1978), "Unutulmayanlar" (1981), "İdamlık" (1983), "Berlin in Berlin" (1993) and "Güle Güle" (1999).

The father of pop singer Harun Kolçak, Eşref Kolçak died on 26 May 2019 in Bursa at the age of 92, two years after the death of his son, and was laid to rest alongside his family.
