Woman (Hanım) (translated)

Hanım is a 1988-89 Turkish drama directed by Halit Refiğ from a script he co-wrote with Nezihe Araz. Yıldız Kenter plays Olcay Hanım, the granddaughter of an Ottoman pasha who lost her naval-captain husband in a sea accident years earlier; now diagnosed with terminal (uterine) cancer, her overriding worry is who will look after the cat she named after herself. Eşref Kolçak and Bahtiyar Engin also appear in the cast.

Produced by Odak Film, the picture premiered at the 26th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, where Refiğ won the Best Director award and the film placed as second runner-up for Best Film; it opened theatrically in Turkey on January 5, 1990. Kenter's performance was further honored with a Best Actress award at the 1989 Corsica-Bastia Film Festival.
