Feride Çetin — Biography

Born on 5 November 1980 in Istanbul to a family of Bulgarian immigrants, Feride Çetin graduated from the Radio, Television and Cinema Department of Istanbul University's Faculty of Communication, earned a master's degree in cinema and television at Marmara University, where she is now a doctoral student, and is fluent in English, German and Spanish; she has also written occasional pieces for the Radikal Kitap literary supplement.

She began her career behind the camera and trained at the Theatre Research Laboratory before being discovered on the set of Kutluğ Ataman's İki Genç Kız (2005), where she had gone to work as his assistant, and was cast in the lead role of Behiye — a performance that won her three awards in 2006, from the Adana Altın Koza, Ankara and Sadri Alışık film festivals. She went on to appear in Gomeda (2007), Ulak (2007) and Güzel Günler Göreceğiz (2011), and has directed close to fifteen short films of her own.

On television she has acted in series including Rüya Gibi, Hatırla Sevgili, Aşk ve Ceza, Anneler ve Kızları, Eve Dönüş, Hercai (as Zehra) and Taçsız Prenses (2023). In 2019 she married film critic Murat Özer, who died in 2022. Also active in journalism and theatre, she returned to the stage in 2026 with the play Kahkaha Çiçeği.
