Jean-Michel Ribes — Biography
Born on 15 December 1946 in Paris's 16th arrondissement, Jean-Michel Ribes built a wide-ranging French career as a playwright, screenwriter, stage and film director, and actor.
He directed the program Merci Bernard from 1982 to 1984 and worked on Palace from 1988 onward. In 2008 he staged Batailles, a piece written together with Roland Topor, and went on to direct Petter S. Rosenlund's Un garçon impossible, as well as Roland Dubillard's Les Diablogues. Then in 2010 he directed Les Nouvelles Brèves de Comptoir, starring Jean-Marie Gourio, and the following year wrote and staged René l'énervé - Opéra bouffe et tumultueux, set to music by Reinhardt Wagner, before mounting Théâtre sans animaux, followed in 2013 by a staging of Sébastien Thiéry's play L'Origine du Monde. From 2001 to 2022 he headed the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris. On screen he appeared in films such as Elle court, elle court la banlieue, Troubleshooters, Macédoine, Le Mors aux dents, and Avoir 20 ans dans les Aurès. He holds both the Knight's and Officer's ranks of the Legion of Honour.
