Daniel Mesguich — Biography
Daniel Mesguich was born on 15 July 1952 in Algiers, then part of French Algeria. After training at the regional conservatory in Marseille and the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD) in Paris, he first made his name on stage, and in 1979 — on Marie-France Pisier's recommendation — landed a role in François Truffaut's Love on the Run.
Though he never became a major film star, Mesguich is regarded as one of the towering figures of French theatre; his screen credits include The Lady Banker (1980), L'Autrichienne (1990), La femme fardée (1990), Le Radeau de la Méduse (1994) and The Musketeer (2001). He headed the CNSAD from 2007 to 2013 and has been honored as a Knight of the Legion of Honour, a Knight of the National Order of Merit and a Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres. He continued acting into the 2020s, appearing in Kaamelott: The Second Chapter (2025).
