Ragıp Savaş — Biography

Ragıp Savaş (born October 24, 1966, in İzmit) is a Turkish stage and screen actor and theatre director. A one-time volleyball player who turned professional with Eczacıbaşı SK in 1983, he entered the Theatre Department of Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory in 1986 and, on graduating in 1990, became one of the founding members of Bakırköy Municipal Theatres. There he appeared in acclaimed productions such as Aziz Nesin's "Demokrasi Gemisi" and Nâzım Hikmet's award-winning "İvan İvanoviç Var Mıydı Yok Muydu?," played Creon in a staging of "Antigone" directed by Georgian director Robert Sturua, and served as deputy artistic director of the theatre from 1998 to 2002.

Savaş moved into film with "Where's Firuze?" in 2003 and went on to screen roles in productions including "Valley of the Wolves: Ambush" and "Kuruluş: Osman." He is married to Fadime Savaş and the couple have children. He now serves as General Artistic Director of Bakırköy Municipal Theatres, a company that closed its 35th anniversary season to record audiences and staged productions such as "Anne Kafamda Bit Var," inspired by the life of actor Tarık Akan.
