Sanem Çelik — Biography

Born on 18 May 1975 in Istanbul, Sanem Çelik began ballet training at eight, on her grandmother's initiative after her father left the family, and after twelve years as a soloist and company dancer at the Istanbul University State Conservatory she transferred into its acting department, studying under Yıldız Kenter and Haldun Dormen before graduating in 1999. During these years she also did voice-over work in animated films and both danced and sang in a stage musical.

She entered cinema in 1996 as Emine in Yaban, winning a Golden Boll award for best supporting actress, then became widely known a year later for playing the scheming Yasemin Saylan in Kara Melek. Her role in Filler ve Çimen in 2000 earned her best-actress honors at five separate festivals including the Golden Orange, and in 2003 she played Queen Puduhepa in the documentary Hititler; between 2004 and 2006 her lead role in Aliye brought her numerous further awards.

In 2012, after seventeen years away from dance, she performed again in a charity show, then played Ceylan Özsoy Çakırbeyli in Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz and Figen Yürekli in Bir Litre Gözyaşı; she returned to television in 2025 as Dilşah in Aşk ve Gözyaşı and took the role of Kumru in the 2026 web series Leyla Hâli.
