Talat Bulut — Biography

Talat Bulut's real name is Talat Dumanlı; he was born on 23 March 1956 in the Sarıkamış district of Kars. He dropped out of an electronic engineering degree at Hacettepe University in his second year, was chosen from roughly 450 candidates for one of fifteen places in a 1975 audition, and made his first stage appearance with the Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu in the play Dimitrof. Encouraged by Türkan Şoray, he moved into film in 1979 with Hazal. Co-starring with Hülya Koçyiğit in Derman (1983) and Firar (1985) brought him recognition and four festival prizes for best or best supporting actor, though he later stepped back from acting during a slow period for Turkish cinema. It was the 1994 film Manisa Tarzanı that made him widely known. He went on to appear in Annem, Mutluluk, Mucize, Saklambaç, Kasaba and Göç Zamanı, and played the lead, Halit Argun, in Yasak Elma from 2018 to 2020. His twelve-year marriage (1987-2009) to Pınar Afşar, daughter of singer Esin Afşar, produced a daughter, Hazal, born in 1999. In 2026 prosecutors closed an investigation into an on-set harassment claim that had circulated on social media, finding no grounds to proceed.
