In Between (Arada)

Arada is a 2018 Turkish drama that marks the feature directing debut of Mu Tunç, who also wrote the screenplay. Set in 1990s Istanbul amid the city's underground punk scene, it follows Ozan, a young punk who hopes to build a music career by putting out an album in California. His father Altan was himself a musician once, but his career ended during the coup period. A bitter quarrel between the two over Ozan's future pushes the young man out of the house, and through his friend Deniz he learns of a ship sailing to California. Seeing the opportunity he has been waiting for, Ozan spends a single night scouring Istanbul with his girlfriend Lara in search of a ticket. Starring Burak Deniz, Büşra Develi and Selim Bayraktar, the film was shot in about two weeks and, after screenings at international festivals and museums, opened across Turkey on 13 April 2018 in eighty-one theaters. It is widely regarded as the first punk film of Turkish cinema.
