My Cinemas (Benim Sinemalarım)

My Cinemas is a 1990 Turkish drama film co-directed by writer Füruzan and painter Gülsün Karamustafa. Adapted from Füruzan's short story of the same name, it marks the directorial debut of both artists and remains the first and only Turkish film directed jointly by two women. The lead roles are shared by Hülya Avşar and Yaman Okay.

Set in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of 1960s Istanbul, the film follows the unhappy young Nesibe, who loses herself in the enchanted world of movies in an attempt to escape her impoverished life. At the 1990 Cannes Film Festival it was counted among the eight best-liked films out of 118 shown in the Critics' Week and Golden Camera sections; in 1991 it won the Best First Film Jury Special Award at the Fajr Film Festival and was selected among the Top Ten Asian Films at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
