Cartouche

Cartouche is a 1962 French-Italian swashbuckling adventure film directed by Philippe de Broca. The story draws freely on the life of Louis Dominique Bourguignon, better known by his nickname Cartouche, a real highwayman and gang leader who operated in Paris, around the Court of Miracles, during the Regency of the early 18th century.

Jean-Paul Belmondo plays Cartouche as a charming, daring and witty robber who steals from the wealthy, wins the affection of ordinary people and repeatedly slips through the fingers of the authorities hunting him down. Claudia Cardinale appears as the beautiful, passionate woman who captures his heart, while the supporting cast includes Jean Rochefort, Marcel Dalio, Odile Versois and Jess Hahn.

Shot in French with a running time of 114 minutes, the film blends brisk swordplay, comedy and romance, and stands as one of the notable popular adventure pictures of its era as well as one of the titles that helped cement Belmondo's stardom.
