Paradise (Cennet) (translated)

Cennet (Paradise) is a 2007 Turkish psychological drama directed and produced by Biray Dalkıran, known for the horror film Araf; it is his second feature film. The screenplay was written by Burak Sesli, who comes from a music video background. For the dream and paradise sequences, which run over twenty minutes, visual effects teams from Turkey and the United Kingdom worked together, and the project was realized by Düş Fabrikası with support from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The film delves into the inner world of Can, a young man who has built his own imaginary realm after the childhood trauma of losing his mother and has spent years in a mental hospital. Engin Altan Düzyatan plays Can, while Fahriye Evcen portrays his imaginary friend; the cast also includes Zeynep Papuççuoğlu, Şendoğan Öksüz, Mehmet Birkiye, and Cüneyt Sayıl. Delayed by the late arrival of effects from the UK, the film opened on 11 April 2008 and stayed in cinemas for twelve weeks.
