Movie · 1967 · 2 people

Dokuzuncu Hariciye Koğuşu (Ninth External Ward) is a 1967 black-and-white Turkish romantic drama, directed by Nejat Saydam from the novel of the same name by Peyami Safa and produced by Murat Köseoğlu for Acar Film. The leads are shared by Kartal Tibet, as Burhan, a young man who has struggled since childhood with a joint/bone ailment in his leg, and Hülya Koçyiğit as Nüzhet, his childhood friend and great love.

Tension builds when a young doctor, Ragıp (Muzaffer Tema), who wants to marry Nüzhet, becomes involved in Burhan's treatment; while the novel ends with the leg healing, the film departs from its source and closes on a tragic note that costs several of the characters their lives. The extensive supporting cast also includes Aliye Rona, İbrahim Delideniz, Renan Fosforoğlu, and, in a small role, Şener Şen.
