The Best Years of My Life (Hayatımın En Güzel Yılları) (translated)

Hayatımın En Güzel Yılları is a 1972 Turkish film directed and produced by Süreyya Duru, with a screenplay by Erdoğan Tünaş. The 86-minute Duru Film production was shot in Istanbul and Germany, and was released in Iran under the title 'Epic of a Hero.'

The film tells the love story of Murat and Lale, who have been together since childhood. Murat, the son of a poor, alcoholic father, asks Lale's wealthy father for her hand but is refused and insulted. That same evening, a coffeehouse brawl leaves the family with a debt of three thousand liras. To raise the money, Murat enters a boxing match, where managers discover him and he turns professional. As fame changes him, Lale's family falls into financial trouble and she becomes a singer, and the couple's paths cross once more. The film stars Cüneyt Arkın and Müşerref Tezcan.
