Hicran Street (Hicran Sokağı) (translated)

Hicran Sokağı is a 2007 Turkish drama written and directed by Safa Önal. It was the last film directed by Önal, who had a long career as a screenwriter.

The story takes place in a Bosphorus neighborhood of Istanbul. Arif, who was abandoned by his parents as a small child and grew up in an orphanage, is an honest young man earning a living as a repairman of water heaters, taps and bicycles. He is deeply in love with Leyla, a university student from a wealthy family, but her family refuses to let her marry him. Leyla leaves her home and neighborhood and disappears, leaving Arif devastated. The film also follows Müyesser, who is hopelessly in love with Arif, her kind widowed mother Şaziye, meatball seller Temel, former famous singer Handan and her elderly admirer Şadi Bey, among the neighborhood's colorful residents.

The production stands out for its large ensemble of veterans of Turkish cinema, including Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, Cüneyt Arkın, Selda Alkor, Ayla Algan, Süleyman Turan and Tanju Gürsu. Ahu Türkpençe plays Leyla and Pelin Batu plays Müyesser.
