Fig Jam (İncir Reçeli) (translated)
Aytaç Ağırlar wrote and directed İncir Reçeli (Fig Jam), a Turkish drama and romance that was his first attempt at directing a feature. It reached cinemas on 11 February 2011 and returned to them on 7 April 2023. Running about 94 minutes, it follows a big-city romance in Istanbul that begins like a fairy tale and turns toward a tragic event. It expands a 2009 short film of the same name.
At its centre is Metin, who earns his living writing sketch shows for television. He dreams of seeing a screenplay of his made into a film, but producers keep rejecting his scripts. After one such evening he meets Duygu, a very drunk young woman, at a bar and takes her home; by morning only a brief note is left. They meet again at the same bar, and Duygu starts staying at his place often. Metin knows nothing about her except her name, and she sometimes vanishes without warning, leaving notes. With no phone number to reach her, he grows curious about her secret and follows her. Halil Sezai Paracıkoğlu and Melike Güner play the leads, with Sinan Çalışkanoğlu in the cast.
Audiences gave it an average of 4.0 across 905 ratings; one critic found the story far from original.
