Janjan

Janjan is a 2007 Turkish drama film directed by Aydın Sayman from a screenplay by Erdoğan Akduman. Set in the Gediz district of Kütahya, it tells a melancholic love story rooted in Anatolian village life.

The story centers on Sadık, an innocent young man nicknamed "Janjan" by the villagers, and Güzel, a seventeen-year-old girl married off to a much older man. Their forbidden closeness draws the mockery and rejection of the community, driving Janjan into loneliness and tragedy. Berk Hakman and Selen Seyven star in the lead roles, with Necmettin Çobanoğlu, Ahmet Rıfat Şungar, Levend Yılmaz and Emrah Akduman rounding out the cast. The film portrays rural social pressure and the crushing of innocence in an emotional tone.
