Rootless (Köksüz) (translated)

Rootless (Köksüz) is a 2013 Turkish drama written and directed by Deniz Akçay as his feature debut. The 81-minute film portrays a family's disintegration through everyday tensions at home rather than dramatic events; in the director's own words, it tells of people caught in between, clumsily carrying roles imposed on them by others.

The story centers on Nurcan, left alone with three children after her husband's death. The elder daughter Feride effectively assumes the father's role, which Nurcan embraces by treating her almost as a substitute husband; seventeen-year-old İlker drifts away in protest at his sister's authority, while the youngest, Özge, struggles to be noticed at all. When Feride accepts Gülağa's marriage proposal as a way out, the household's fragile balance collapses. The cast includes Ahu Türkpençe, Lale Başar, Savaş Alp Başar, Melis Ebeler, Mihriban Er, and Sekvan Serinkaya.
