Press

Press is a 2010 Turkish drama film written, directed and edited by Sedat Yılmaz. His first feature film, it portrays journalists working at the Diyarbakır office of the Özgür Gündem newspaper in 1992, struggling to carry out their profession amid the conflicts and pressures of the 1990s. The film drew attention when it was selected for the 47th Antalya Golden Orange International Film Festival.

In the story, Faysal, one of the journalists at the office, comes across the trail of a gang linked to the army and suspected of many unsolved murders; despite death threats, he refuses to drop the story. The team must overcome obstacles ranging from technical shortcomings to getting photographs printed and sent to Istanbul. The English word was chosen for the original title because it evokes both "press" and "repression" at once. Hakan Karsak stars in the film.
