Breathless (Serseri Aşıklar)

Breathless (À bout de souffle) is a 1960 French crime drama and the first feature-length film directed by Jean-Luc Godard. Jean-Paul Belmondo stars as Michel Poiccard, a wandering small-time criminal, in a role that marked his breakthrough as an actor, while Jean Seberg plays his American girlfriend Patricia. After stealing a car in Marseille and killing a policeman who pursues him, Michel hides out in Paris with Patricia, an aspiring journalist who sells the New York Herald Tribune on the streets; when she finally betrays him to the police, he is shot dead in the street.

Based on a story by François Truffaut inspired by a newspaper report, the film became one of the most influential works of the French New Wave, noted for its bold visual style and unconventional use of jump cuts. It drew more than two million viewers on its initial French release, earned Godard the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 1960 Berlin Film Festival, and has since been ranked among the greatest films ever made.
