Keep Your Right Up (Soigne ta droite)

Soigne ta droite is a 1987 French comedy-drama written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, who also appears in the film. Loosely adapted from Dostoevsky's The Idiot, it intertwines the story of a naive, hapless prince with that of a pop singer called Rita Mitsouko as she works on recording a new album. The cast includes Jane Birkin, Dominique Lavanant and Pauline Lafont, alongside veteran performers François Périer, Michel Galabru and Rufus. The title comes from a boxing trainer's call to 'keep your right up' and nods to the 1938 short film Soigne ton gauche, which Jacques Tati scripted. Sometimes subtitled Une place sur la terre, the film received the Louis Delluc Prize.
