The Window

The Window (Persian: Panjereh) is a 1970 Iranian drama film written and directed by Jalal Moghadam. The film is a free adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's novel An American Tragedy, effectively a Persian-language reworking of the story that Hollywood filmed as A Place in the Sun. The cast is led by Behrouz Vossoughi, the celebrated singer and actress Googoosh, and Zhaleh Olov.

Carrying Dreiser's tragedy into an Iranian setting, the story follows a young man caught between his hunger for social advancement and his romantic entanglements, a conflict that drives him toward disaster. The same novel later inspired two more Iranian adaptations, Yekbar baraye Hamishe (1992) and Tekye bar Bad (1999). Shot in Persian with a running time of around 106 minutes, the film is remembered as one of the notable romantic dramas of pre-revolutionary Iranian cinema.
