Zenne

Zenne is a 2011 Turkish drama film co-directed by Caner Alper and Mehmet Binay, with a screenplay by Caner Alper. Inspired by the real life of Ahmet Yıldız — a close friend of the directors who was killed in an honor killing on July 15, 2008 for being gay — the film features music by Demir Demirkan and Paolo Poti. Its title refers to the 'zenne', a male dancer performing in women's clothing, and it opened in Turkish cinemas on January 13, 2012.

The story follows the intersecting friendship in Istanbul of Ahmet, the son of a conservative family from the east; Can, who works openly as a zenne; and Daniel, a German photographer. Through Ahmet, who cannot obtain a passport because he has not done his military service, the film explores the discrimination faced by LGBT people in Türkiye. Kerem Can, Erkan Avcı and Giovanni Arvaneh star in the leading roles.
