Türker İnanoğlu — Biography

Türker İnanoğlu (18 May 1936, Safranbolu, Karabük – 2 April 2024, Istanbul) was a Turkish film director, producer, screenwriter and businessman. He entered the industry as an assistant director while still a student at the School of Applied Fine Arts, working alongside Ömer Lütfi Akad and Nişan Hançer before directing his first feature, Senden Ayrı Yaşayamam, in 1960.

He founded Erler Film, one of the oldest production houses in Turkish cinema (sources date its founding between 1959 and 1962). The company turned out well over a hundred black-and-white and colour features, including co-productions with Greece, Italy and Iran, among them the Kara Murat, Yumurcak and Three Superboys series. İnanoğlu himself directed more than eighty films.

From the mid-1980s he shifted towards television, producing series such as Yabancı Damat, Akasya Durağı and the long-running police drama Arka Sokaklar. He received lifetime achievement awards at the Golden Orange and Malatya film festivals and a Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award. He was married to and later divorced from the actress Filiz Akın, and spent some fifty years with his second wife, the actress Gülşen Bubikoğlu; his son İlker İnanoğlu was known as a child actor. Karabük University's faculty of communication in Safranbolu is named after him.
