Berkay Ateş — Biography
Istanbul-born Berkay Ateş came into the world on 19 February 1987; his father's family is from Ardahan and his mother's from Malatya. He first enrolled in Statistics-Mathematics at Mimar Sinan University before switching to its State Conservatory for theatre. Trained at Semaver Kumpanya, he later joined Emir Çubukçu and Can Kulan to launch Tiyatro D22 in Galata, writing plays such as Kuş Öpücüğü and Karabatak; in 2017 his play Hakikat, Elbet Bir Gün won the Cevdet Kudret Literature Award.
His film career opened in 2013 with the role of İsyancı in Yarım Kalan Mucize; two years later he played Ahmet in Emin Alper's Abluka, earning the Promising Young Actor prize at Adana's Golden Boll Festival. He moved into television in 2016, playing Cengiz Yıldız in Anne and Saltuk in İstanbul Sokakları, then Fettah in Gülizar, Mahsun in Çukur, and Ozan Akınsel in Alev Alev.
He played Zakir in the 2019 film Görülmüştür and appeared in Karanlık Gece. Kurtuluş, his second film with Emin Alper, took the Silver Bear at Berlinale in 2026; around the same time he took the stage in Sessizliği Vurun, balancing film, television and theatre.
